Case Study: Academic Facilitation and Student Learning Support

University of Memphis Educational Support Program | Facilitating Student Growth Through Tutoring and Group Learning

Overview
While working with the University of Memphis Educational Support Program, I facilitated student growth and academic development through personalized tutoring, guided problem-solving support, and structured group study sessions. My role focused on helping students strengthen understanding, build confidence, and improve their ability to communicate academic ideas effectively.

By combining one-on-one support with small-group facilitation, I helped create a more engaging and supportive learning environment for students navigating challenging coursework.

The Challenge
Students often needed support beyond the classroom to fully understand difficult material, work through academic challenges, and improve how they presented their ideas. Some required individualized guidance, while others benefited from collaborative learning environments that encouraged discussion, accountability, and peer engagement.

There was a need for facilitation that not only addressed immediate academic questions, but also helped students build confidence, strengthen communication, and become more effective learners overall.

My Approach
I provided personalized tutoring support tailored to students’ academic needs, helping them work through challenging concepts and improve their problem-solving approach. In addition to individual support, I organized and supervised group study sessions designed to promote collaboration, reinforce learning, and create a more interactive academic experience.

I also guided students in improving presentation skills, helping them communicate ideas more clearly and effectively in academic settings.
